1862 18ct Yellow Gold AGL Certififed Colombian Emerald

I feel there is a genuine magic imbued into antique emeralds, more so when said emerald belongs to a ring inscribed 1862.

A recent poll of historians was conducted to determine if 2020 was the worst year in US history 

(presumed origin on this ring given the English inscription and lack of European hallmarks). The group said "no," and in fact, 2020 isn't even in the top three. Which came in first? Yup, 1862*. The effort was led by British historian Philip Parker, who compiled a list of the "worst of the worst." The historians then decided that the darkest year of the Civil War was 1862, and it is the historians’ “winner.”

“It’s a symbol of a time when the nation almost broke apart,” Parker said. “And that, really, goes to the essence of what it is to be a country and a society. It’s almost like a dagger to the heart of the country.”

I share this not to deter you, but instead to make you more aware and appreciative of the scale and caliber of love that had to have been felt and exchanged between two people for this ring to come into being. For that date, the 6th of September 1862, to have been so meaningful and important as to warrant presevation through inscription. The darkness those people were surrounded in only makes my admiration for this piece all the greater. Her heavily chased shoulders don't hurt either.

That's the type of history of love, that's the perspective I enjoy most in all antique pieces. I hope that one of you will love this ring as I have and do, and welcome it into your own collection.
