Antique Napoleon III French Onyx, Pearl, 18ct Yellow Gold Locket w/ Original Glass
This is one of the finest French onyx lockets from the Napoléon III period I have had the pleasure of owning, and now I pass that mantle on for the next owner.
This beautiful locket was originally sourced right out of France, and is of exceptional quality. The onyx panels are set within 18ct gold (hallmarks shown in photos), is adorned in pearls, and has a thick original glass door panel in the middle, typical for French lockets in the Napoléon III era (c.1870). The pearls are all in top condition, great colour and impeccable lustre, particularly for their age. What is more remarkable about this locket is both it’s hefty weight, 12.49 grams, as well as the intricate rope detailing on both the top and bottom edging of the setting. In most occasions, these French lockets were much more plain in nature and had simple settings. This is a remarkable exception to the rule and sure to become an heirloom piece for its next home.
